Poorly Flipped Homes?

Most buyers believe that when they buy a rehabbed home the home is automatically perfect with all working 100%. The fact is unless the home is brand new you should never assume that and even then there could be issues. When buying a home in general no matter if flipped or new always check for the following: roof, plumbing, electrical,  & foundation..... Once you cover those 4 pts you will basically be checking for major repairs if any. You can always research corporations online for reputations but keep in mind reviews can be bogus just like claims. Also some flippers may not be that big to research; some can be everyday individuals giving it a shot. Aside form home inspectors you can always have roofers, plumbers, septic inspectors, GC's, and or electricians....

My advice is if your home inspector identifies an issue than have that issue looked at by an individual that specializes in the expertise. One can always go the legal route if things are not sold the way they were promised; however you need to check with an attorney to see if it's worth it. Also keep in mind flips mainly focus on main items like the visual and any large repairs but other repairs although needed may not fit the budget. A flipper should be disclosing as right business sense and in NY state it's now required.

Checking with the town can provide a peace of mind for permits and records; however at times towns maybe useless as well. Your best bet is to get a professional to let you know what is wrong, if fixable, and for how much.  Also make sure you compare advice and research yourself so you are not being sold another service that perhaps is not needed.
