We are all so lucky to have wonderful, rich family history and or heritage. At times it can be very different to the area we live in. I can speak by experience as we live in a rural town in NY state. My husband is Irish and I am a native Colombian.
On the Irish side it has been pretty easy to mix both the style of the area and the culture as its very green where we live, just like in Ireland. On the Colombian side it has been tricky due to the vibrant colors of the culture. I have learned that I can make certain rooms look more rustic and or Irish and where it seems fit I will add a mix of color to pop on the wall or space that will show the Colombian side to our home.
Bottomline take the more loud of cultures so to speak when it comes to style and use it as a pop up item on your decorating. Usually the items that pop up are those interesting, very different or colorful items in a room. They become reason of conversation when guests arrive and also remind you of the uniqueness of your home's family history, culture, and area.
